ESAU: THE SON WHO LOST HIS INHERITANCE

Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know that after ward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected; for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.Heb 12:15-17.

Esau was the first born of Isaac the son of Abraham. And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. Gen 25:25. The blessings of the Abrahamic covenant which was transferred to Isaac was supposed to be passed on to Esau .Unfortunately Esau did not value this birthright. And Esau said, behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me. ……and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. Thus Esau despised his birthright. Gen 25:32-35.

What is the God given gift, privellege you are despising just for a temporary satisfaction of the flesh? Eternal life is too precious to be despised just because of earthly perishable gains. Everyone must watch his life. What are those things that compete with the love of God in your heart? What are the things that normally drag you away from God’s presence and push you cheaply into the devil’s hand? Has the root of bitterness defile you? Is bitterness and unforgiving spirit deep rooted in your heart and you find it difficult or impossible to forgive anyone who crossed your path.

Failure to diligently watch over your spiritual experiences will definitely lead to a fall from grace. Sin perforates the spiritual container of the sinner thus allowing the grace of God to leak away from your life. Such was the case of Esau. Fornication, profanity, root of bitterness and lust for red pottage made him to trade away God’s life long gift of the firstborn in order to satisfy a short term appetite. For when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected; for he found no place of repentance though he sought it carefully with tears.Heb 12:17.Unrepentant, un-confessed sin will land the sinner into eternal doom and regret. To avoid this, the sinner must repent sincerely and renounce all sin. He then confesses Jesus as Lord and Saviour and invite Him into his life for a life long friendship and fellowship. Do this from the depth of your heart so you can join others to partake of the divine inheritance in Christ.
