THE COMPASSIONATE JESUS

And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. And behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you? They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight and they followed him. Mat 20:29-34.

Key Verse: So Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

This story of two blind men sitting by the way side as Jesus passed by depicts the situation of many people in our contemporary time.As the two were blind and in need of a guide, helper and supporter, so also is all those living in sin. They are spiritually blind and in dire need of a Guide, Helper and Supporter of their life. They can not continue successfully in life’s journey without Christ, the Guide and Helper of their life. They can not see their front. They are groping in the world of darkness and in need of the Helper. All those wallowing in spiritual darkness need to cry out for mercy from the Son of David.

Jesus stood still to attend unto the cries of the blind men. He is still ready and in the business of listening to the cries of multitude of people who have been battered by various circumstances of life. He is stretching forth his hand of mercy to reach you before the circumstances of life drown you.

What will ye that I shall do unto you? Verse 32b. This is a direct question from the Saviour to you. Tell him what exactly you want him to do for you. Do not beat about the bush. Go straight to the point. Do not hide anything from him. Open your life’s wounds to him. He is the Great Physician. He will heal you. Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth. Jer 33:6. For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after. Jer 30:17.

The response of these blind men are very instructive. They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. Verse 33. May the Lord open your eyes to behold his glory and future glory of the victorious and overcoming saints. May he open your eyes to catch a glimpse of the beauty of heaven. May the Lord also open your eyes to see the eternal doom and condemnation awaiting all unrepentant sinners. May he open your eyes and show you the way of escape through calvary.

So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him. May the Lord have compassion on you as he had on these two blind men. The Lord did not abandon them in the same state he met them. He changed their situation for good. He restored the sight they lost. He will restore all that you lost in Jesus Name. He showed them compassion. He is still showing compassion to the poor and helpless. But when he saw the multitudes, he was move with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Mat 9:36. Jesus has seen your condition. He knows the defeat you have suffered in your spiritual journey. He saw all the rising and falling in your spiritual life. He saw you breaking the covenant of marriage and the sacred vows you made. You could not keep your new year resolutions. He saw you breaking them even when the year is still very young. Inspite of all these, he is moved with compassion towards you ready to touch and reshape your broken life. He is willing to pick up the broken pieces of your life and make it anew if you will give him chance. He will change your story from battered life to blissful life. If you willingly decide to give him a chance to remould your life, then sincerely say this prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to you for help. I can not guide my life. I repent in dust and ashes and promise never to go back to my old way of life. I completely surrender my life to you. Cleanse all my sins with your precious blood, forgive me and write my name in your book in heaven. In Jesus Name I pray Amen.
