THE ANCIENT LANDMARKS Prov. 22:28

These are Basic Bible Doctrines and the Articles of Faith on which The Outreach Team is built. We believe and teach:

That the Holy Bible made up of 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament is the inspired word of God. It is the final authority in all matters for life and ministry. It is error-proof, non-contradictory, perfect, infallible and alive. It is God’s comprehensive equipment for changing lives. The central message of the Holy Bible is Jesus Christ and His redemptive work. 2Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pt.1:19-21; 1 Pt.1:23-25; Ps.19:7-11; Ps.119:89; Prov.30:5-6.

That there is only one God, the Almighty, the Creator of Heaven and Earth and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Gen. 1:1; Gen. 17:1; Gen. 35:11; 1Tim. 6:13-16; Rm 1:16-20.

That there are three persons in the Trinity namely God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. They are distinct, separate yet perfectly united in purpose, power and agree in unity. Gen. 1:26; Matt. 3:16-17; Matt. 28:19-20; 2Cor. 13:14; 1Jn. 5:7.

That the whole duty of man on earth is to accept Jesus as the only begotten Son of God and Saviour of the world, fear God, obey his commandments and give him quality praise and worship in the beauty of his holiness.Jn3:14-19; Acts 16:30-31; Acts 4:10-12;Ecc. 12:12-13; Ps. 27:4-5; Ps. 29:2; Ps. 103:1-2, 20-22; Ps. 136:1-3.

That Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God was conceived by Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit without any sin. Gen. 3:15; Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:18-25; Lk.1:26-38.

That Jesus Christ though without sin, died a substitutionary death on the Cross of Calvary for the sins of humanity. He was buried and resurrected bodily on the third day and he ascended into heaven where he sat at the right hand of God. Jn.1:29, 36; 1Pt.2:21-24; Isa.53:1-12; Deut. 21:18-23; 1Cor.15:1-4; Acts1:9-11; Acts7:55-56.

That this same Jesus will come again the second time after the rapture of the saints but as the Lion of the tribe of Judah and King of kings and Lords of lords to execute judgment in righteousness and establish his eternal kingdom on the earth. Acts1:9-11; Rev.22:7,12; Jn.14:1-3, Matt.24:27-30; Lk.21:27; Rev.19:11-16.

That man was created in God’s image of absolute purity but voluntarily fell away through wilful disobedience and transgression. The consequence of this made all mankind sinners, shapen in iniquity and became empty of the holiness of God. Thus the need for redemption; Gen.1:26-28, Gen.3:6-8; Ps.51:5; Rm.3:9-18, 23; Rm.5:12-17; Isa.64:6.

That the consequence of sin is permanent separation between God and man. Man is doomed forever if he fails to repent before death because there is no repentance in the grave. God undertook the redemptive plan for man by sending Jesus to die for him as the substitute and sin bearer. This resulted in removal of the guilt of the penitent sinner. Gen.3:24; Rm.5:12-19; Jn.3:16; Ex.12:13; Matt.26:28; Eph.1:7; Eph 2:12-19.

That Repentance is necessary and compulsory for the sinner to receive grace and forgiveness from all sins. Genuine repentance is a complete turning away from all sins and its accompanying fruit is automatic change that affects all aspects of the life of the penitent. Genuine repentance is as a result of deep sorrow for sin and contrition of heart. It leads to salvation from sin when the penitent puts his faith on the finished work of Christ on Calvary. This experience must be nurtured with the word of God in order to constantly maintain a victorious life above sin. Salvation could be lost if carelessness and lack of watchfulness is permitted. Matt 3:7-10;Matt.4:17; Acts 2:38-42, Acts 17:30; Prov. 28:13; 2Cor.5:17; Rm.6:11-16; Rm8:1-8; 1Jn.2:15-17; Ezk 3:20-21; Ezk 18:24,26; Ezk 33:11-19; Heb 6:4-6; Heb 10:23-29; 2 Pt 2:20-22; Jn 5:13-14; Jn 8:10-11, 31-36; 1 Jn 3:9-10.

That Restitution is the act of restoring and making amends to all wrongs done in the past including marriage relationships. It involves opening up of covered lies, returning stolen properties, embezzled funds to their rightful owners, apologizing to those offended, paying just debts, etc. It is necessary and binding on all whose sins have been cleansed and forgiven in order to have a conscience void of offence both towards God and man. Gen 20:1-8, 14-18; Lev 6:1-7; Ex 22:1-9; Lk 19:1-10; Acts 23:1-5; Acts 24:16

That water baptism is the outward sign of the inward grace. It is the public identification and declaration of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection and it is strictly for genuine believers. When we undergo water baptism, we express our faith that as Christ died, was buried and resurrected, all who are saved through faith in his death will one day resurrect to life.It is necessary for the believer to submit to water baptism in fulfillment of Christ’s ordinance. The scripturally approved pattern for water baptism is by ONE immersion in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. Infants who have not reached the age of accountability and adults who have not been saved from sin are not qualified for water baptism.Water baptism does not save but it is necessary to fulfill all righteousness. Matt.28:19, Mk 16:15-16; Mat 3:7-15; Acts 2:38-41, Acts 8:35-39. Rm 6:3-5; Col 2:12

That the Lord’s Supper is an ordinance instituted by Jesus Christ to be observed by believers as often as possible to show forth the Lord’s death till he comes. The emblems of the Lord’s Supper are (i) the unleavened bread and (ii) the fruit of the vine. The Lord’s Supper is strictly to be observed by believers alone because anyone who partakes of it unworthily will bring to himself damnation, sickness and / or death. Matt. 26:26-30; Lk.22:7-20; 1Cor.11:20-30.

That justification is by faith in the finished work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary through which one receives forgiveness and cancellation of sins and he stands before God as if he has never sinned.Rm 5:1-2, 17-21; Eph 2:1-9; Micah7:18-19; Ps.103:8-14; Isa.44:22.

That without holiness no man can see God. God’s standard of holiness is only achievable when one willingly consecrates and surrenders the old life at Calvary where it will be crucified. The old life must die in order to give way for the new creation man to totally occupy the heart. This is the work of grace. Deut.30:6, Heb.13:10-13, Heb 12:14-17; 1Pt.1:13-16; Col.3:2-11; 1Thes.4:3-4, 7-8; 2 Cor 5:14-15; Gal 2:20.

That the baptism in the Holy Ghost is the enduement of power from on high upon the saved, separated and steadfast believer. The initial evidence is speaking in tongues not previously learnt or taught. This experience is for the Church today and it is accompanied with diverse gifts for the edification of the body of Christ. Isa.44:3; Prov.1:23; Acts 1:8; Jn.7:37-39; Jn 14:13-17, 26; Jn 15:26; Acts 2:1-4, Acts 19:1-6; 1Cor.12:1-11, 28-31; Eph.4:8-13.

That personal evangelism is a divinely ordained task for bringing and winning souls into the kingdom of God. Every believer is saved in order for him to serve Christ. It is therefore mandatory for every believer to engage in soul winning personally and collectively with the primary purpose of winning souls for Christ and not argument. As we go, we preach Christ crucified, buried, resurrected and the King who will soon come back to take over the throne of David as Judge of the quick and dead. Matt.28:19-20; Mk.16:15-20; Lk.24:46-48; Jn.20:21; 1Cor.15:1-4, 1Cor 2:1-5; 1Cor.9:16-23; Rm.1:14-18.

That marriage is between a man and a woman. Monogamy and not polygamy is the approved scriptural standard in marriage. It is not between a boy and a girl, neither is it between man and man nor woman and woman. Marriage is for life and it is for better for worst until God by death do them part. There is no room for divorce and re-marriage. Marriage once scripturally entered into remains binding and irrevocable by tradition, court or any other group of persons. Gen.2:18-24; Matt.19:3-11; Mk5:2-12; Matt.5:31-32; Mal.2:13-16; Rm.7:1-3; Jn.4:10-19.

That Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law and His Supreme sacrifice on the Cross purchased healing and health for all mankind. At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow and by his stripes we were healed. Gal. 3:13-14; 1Pt. 2:22-24; Isa.53:4-5; Ex.15:26; Ps.103:1-5, Ps 107:17-20; Matt.8:14-17; Mk.16:15-18; 3Jn.2; Ex.23:25-26.

That the Rapture or the catching away of the saints will mark the end of the Church age and the beginning of the great tribulation. In the rapture only believers living and dead will hear the sound of the trumpet and will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. This will happen within a twinkling of the eyes, without any sign or warning. This is the first phase of Christ’s second coming. 1Cor.15:51-58; 1Thes.4:13-18; Jn.14:1-3.

That all the dead will be resurrected either to honour and everlasting life or to shame and everlasting contempt. Dan.12:2; Jn.5:25, 28-29; Job 19:25-27; Rev.20:4-6, 12-13; 1Cor.15:1-56; Isa.26:19. The resurrection to honour and everlasting life is in stages viz: (i) The resurrection of Christ; 1Cor.15:3-4, 20; Matt.28:1-6, 9-15; Mk.16:1-6, 9-14, Lk.24:1-45; Jn.20:1-29; Acts 1:1-3. (ii) The rapture or resurrection of believers; 1Thes.4:13-18 (iii) The resurrection of the tribulation saints; Rev.20:4-6. (iv) The resurrection of the Old Testament saints; Dan.2:2; Isa. 26:19.This will take place before the millennial reign.

That the Great tribulation will commence after the rapture of the saints for a period of 7 years. The Great tribulation also known as the time of Jacob’s trouble is a time of wrath from God, punishment and anguish upon all unrepentant souls. Satan through the Anti-Christ will also unleash his wrath and wickedness upon humanity and force them to take the mark of the beast. It will be a period for the reign of terror and evil by the Antichrist. During this period, the marriage supper of the Lamb and the Bema seat will be going on in heaven. Matt.24:15-25; Mk.13:14-23; Jer.30:7; Zeph.1:14-18; Dan 8:9-14, 23-25; Dan 9:26-27; Dan 11:21-45; Joel 2:2, 11; Amos 5:18-20; Rev.6:8-9, 13; Rev. 19:1-9.

That Christ will come the second time just as literal and visible as his ascension and all eyes shall see him. Christ’s second coming will end the great tribulation period with the battle of Armageddon. Then he will set up his millennial reign for a period of one thousand years. It will be a reign of absolute peace and blessing. After this period, Christ will fight and defeat Satan at the battle of Gog and Magog. Zech.14:1-7; Matt.24:29-31; Matt 25:31-32; Lk.21:25-28; 1Thes.1:10, 1Thes 2:19; 1Thes 3:13; Jude 14-15; Rev.19:11-21, Rev.20:1-10. Isa 11:6-10; Isa 65:25; Hosea 2:18-20.

That the Great White Throne Judgment which is the final judgment is when God will judge all nations, the great and the small, living and dead according to their works. This judgment will involve every unrepentant soul that ever lived right from Adam. They will stand before God to give account of what they did with God’s offer of salvation; Matt.11:21-24, Matt 12:41-42; Acts 17:30-31; Rev.20:11-15, Rev 21:8.

That the lake of fire is a place of permanent, everlasting and unending punishment and agony for everyone who rejected Christ’s offer of salvation. After the great white throne judgement, everyone found guilty whose names are not in the book of life will be cast into the lake burning with fire and brimstone. This is the second death and the beginning of eternity for all lost souls. Ps.11:6; Isa.66:24; Matt. 25:41, 46; Mk.9:43-48; Rev.14:9-11, Rev 20:12-15, Rev 21:8, Rev 22:15; 2Thes.1:7-9.

That God will make a new heaven and a new earth where dwelleth righteousness, for the first heaven and the first earth which are reserved unto fire will pass away. Its elements shall be burned up. Then the tabernacle of God will be with men and God shall dwell with his people in the holy city. The foundation of this city will be made up of all manner of precious stones. A pure river of water clear as crystal will proceed out of the throne of God. This is the beginning of eternity for all saints whose names were written in the Lamb’s book of life. Isa.65:17-20, 66:22; 2Pt.3:7-11; Rev.21:1-27, Rev 22:1-5; Heb.11:9-16.
